Brief Description:  Mounted Airborne fuel pump

Here is my twist on the installation of the Airborne fuel boost pump. I spent too much "think" time on this as usual but I like the end result.

My gear box assemblies came with holes pre-drilled for the fuel lines (both the output and return lines). I will only need the one line so I chose the outboard set of holes for my main fuel line. Using a unibit, a Dremel tool, and a scotchbrite wheel on a die grinder, I expanded the hole diameter just enough to slip the blue reducer fitting on the pump input side through the gear box plate to get the mounting bracket up flush against the plate. Using a hole pattern I then match drilled a doubler plate and the gear box plate to mate to the fuel pump bracket.

The pump is now mounted so the whole assembly is up close to the supporting structure. In addition, the lower portion of the pump is supported where it passes through the gear box. The only weakness in the solution is the fuel line connection inside the gear box but it isn't difficult to reach with a wrench. Actually, I think getting the fuel line installed between the valve and pump might be a little easier since the line is just a little shorter. The line up front to the firewall should be easy (no gascolator planned).

I spent too much "think" time on the fuel pump mount design but I like the result. It is a heavy item and the approach shown keeps the weight in close to the supporting structure. It is also supported at the bottom where it passes through the gear box. Should hold up easily to the maximum Gs for the airframe.
