Brief Description:  Installed baggage door latch & more fitting

I spent way too much time installing the latch on the forward baggage door. I began by inserting the lock, tightening down the nut and bending the tab on the lock washer to safety the nut. Then, per the instructions, I inserted each latch rod, pinned them to the bracket, and attached the bracket to the lock mechanism with the screw and lock washer. Rather than using safety wire to secure the pins, however, I used some very small cotter pins (steel).

I then inserted the key, attempted to unlock the mechanism, and found it did not work. The lock was binding about 1/2 way thru its travel. My error was not rounding the ends of the latch rods where they attach to the bracket at the lock. The rods have to be filed round on the ends or they bind on the barrel of the lock. So, I had to take the assembly apart, fix the latch rods, and put it back together. It now works fine.

I also allocated some time to bending the outboard edge of the door to mate better with the fuselage skin. I drew a line about 1/2-5/8" up from the edge, clamped the entire edge of the door between two pieces of angle aluminum (using three C-clamps and two sets of vise-grips), and gently rolled the edge just enough to lay flush against the fuselage skin. I may add a little more curve later with a bevel tool but it looks acceptable even now.
