Brief Description:  Fitted forward baggage door - part 2

Once I was back on my feet it took just a few minutes to pull the final rivets and test fit the completed door back on the forward fuselage. It is a nice fit at present. There is a slight gap on the right side where the firewall is flexible and tends to set forward about 1/16". This will be addressed when the cowling is fitted. The fireall structure will easily be adjusted and stabilized by the fuselage-to-cowl mating hardware.

The door skin just below the latch will have to be bent slightly in towards the fuselage and the edge beveled to ensure a tight fit at the bottom. It looks like the basic bend should be about 1/2" up from the edge. The beveling tool only comes up about 1/4" so I may have to make a bending tool out of wood. A hand seamer might work as well if done very carefully.

I will probably installed the latch and locking mechanism in the next shop session. However, the shop manual says to wait on the nylon latch blocks until after the forward skin is riveted.
