I completed the layout and installed (temporary) the various components in the right auxiliary instrument panel. Items installed included the mag/starter switch, intercom, pitch and roll trim indicators, two dimmer switches, and an autopilot/GPS select switch. I also installed two toggle switches, one to transfer starter control to a switch on the forward stick grip and the other to activate certain grip switches on the rear stick. I also drilled the mounting hole for a miniature toggle switch for cockpit lighting.
The brake cable was mounted in the hole that once housed the autopilot/GPS selector switch (required fabrication of a bushing to reduce the hole size for the cable). Next to the cable I mounted the Hobbs meter for recording engine run time.
Last task for the day was to install the miniature latch in the glove box door. It shows as a silver know in the picture but I have a black plastic knob that will be installed after the panel is painted.
Getting the layout right, fitting so much in a small space and making it both functional and pleasing in appearance took some time, not to mention the labor involved in cutting/drilling all the mounting holes. Most of the work was done with a Dremel tool and hand files and the holes have to be precise since the component designs and mounting methods hide no errors. Trust me, it is a tedious process.
