Brief Description:  Installing the front & rear throttle quadrants

I continued the installation of the custom throttle quadrants today. The first task was to remove some material from the front throttle side plate behind the aft most lightening hole. This is necessary to install the push/pull rod that ties the front throttle lever to the rear. I then cut the throttle rod to the proper length and threaded each end for the clevises.

Next, I marked and cut the holes for the throttle rod in the various bulkheads. This was a tedious task. I lost count of the number of times the quadrants were put on and taken off to check the travel clearances on the rod. I didn't want to make the holes any larger than necessary so it was a slow cut-check-cut process. I think it's complete but will make one more test fit as soon as an additional clevis is obtained for the aft end of the push/pull rod.

On Van's rear throttle kit the rear lever is attached to the push/pull rod wih a rod end bearing. The deluxe throttle, however, has a frame that interferes with the rod end bearing when bolted to the back side of the lever. A second clevis like the one on the forward end of the rod is required to get the proper alignment and operating clearance. Of course, I don't have an extra clevis laying around the shop so another on-line order will be required (wish we had an aircraft hardware supply in Dayton).
