Brief Description: Fuel Tank Work: Outer Wing Tank Rib, Left Tank
In this work session, I finally got back to working on the fuel tanks. I forgot how work intensive this was. I tried to do a simple task, squeeze the rivets to the outboard rib. Well, it took a lot more time and energy to get set up and finally get the rivets how I liked them. Unfortunately for all the time invested I only got the upper surface of the tank squeezed.
One of the main problems I was having was that I was unhappy with the resultant shop heads when I squeezed 3-3.5 rivets, and when I attempted to upsize to 3-4 rivets the rivets were too long and would flag over. I ended up using two 3-3.5 oops rivets (which gave great shop heads). Overall I finished out with the 3-3.5 rivets adn called it done.
NOTE: I later went back and looked at the 3-3.5 rivets, and after a night of sleep, the rivet shop heads looked fine. Better is the mortal enemy of good...
