Brief Description:  Sealing the Fuel Tank -- Right Tank T-711 Stiffene

Today was my first day working with Proseal in an initial attempt to seal up my right fuel tank. As per the instructions, I began by working to seal and back rivet the T-711 fuel tank stiffeners to the tank skin.

It was also my first time using the quart can of sealant and accelerator, previously I used the premade semco sealant kits. This being my first exposure, I made up small batches, an also used a small medicinal medicine syringe to add sealant to tight areas. Overall the experience was positive, but today was only day one on the tanks, and I have 4 to 5 more sessions before the basic tank work is complete.

I was also greatly aided by the use of my C-Frame to rivet. Even though it is a bit of a unwieldly contraption to be used for this purpose, it relaiably makes good back rivets so I continue to use it.

I learned a couple of things today about working with proseal:
1) Use two pair of rubber gloves, and swap the outer pair when they become hopelessly worn or covered with sealant.

2) Clean off everything with Acetone at regular intervals, especially gloves and selant applicators. Make sure all tools remain free of excess sealant.

3) Work in stages. Only do one incrementalstep at a time, frequently check over your work.

4) Apply blue painters tape to the borders of your work areas to catch extra sealant.

5) You can apply sealant to large areas fairly quickly using popsicle sticks. You can easily use a small liquid medical syringe to add sealant to tight areas, but getting the selant into the syringe takes a good amount of work and cleaning.

6) Make sure to press the parts together until the sealant oozes out before attempting to set the rivets.

7) Clean up your work areas early and often, cleanliness is your friend.
