Brief Description:  Elevator Idler

Assembled the elevator pushrod idler that goes behind the seat box area. My Sonex kit includes the "machined angle components" option, so all of the parts except the 3/16" thick spacer and inner steel bushings were pre-made. I just had to clean up the machined areas to remove tool/cut marks, then assemble.

The plans are a little vague on some of the assembly, but I contacted other builders through the internet and got everything clarified.

The toughest part is getting the correct amount of free play in the idler lever while still making the two bracket bolts tight. The plans say to use paper shims as necessary between the left angle and the 3/16" spacer to get the tension right. I did not like the idea of using biodegradable shims, but after trying with no shims and with thin metal shims, it turned out that paper did give the best results.
