The Sonex kit comes with a very nicely machined cap for the seat/seatbelt attach cap. Sadly, this is for the "standard" seat, and I'm building the "lowered" seat. That moves the elevator control cutout a couple of inches toward the centerline. I was saddened to have to make this part and not use the beautiful part provided, but Sonex told me that this part is *way* overbuilt and it was fine to just add a second cutout...joy!
I was not sure how to make the nice cutout, but then I decided to just try the simple flycutter. I had never cut anything so thick with one, but it worked great! I just had to file/sand the outer edges down since the cutout has straight sides and is not a true circular cutout, but that was simple. In the end you really can't tell the difference between the factory cutout and the one I made.
