Brief Description:  Toured around EAA's Pioneer Field in Oshkosh

These pictures were taken after the builder's workshop on Sunday evening.

The B-25 is most widely known for being the aircraft flown by Jimmy Doolittle and his "Raiders" off of an aircraft carrier and bombing Tokyo in a symbolic retaliation for the attack of Pearl Harbor. The 25 is designed as a land based bomber and normally needs a lengthly runway to take off when loaded with bombs, ammunition, fuel, crew, etc. Doolittle's planes were stripped down as much as possible and with the ship at flank speed pointing in to the wind, they were able to lift off from the carrier. I will quite rambling and you can Google it for more info. It was quite the story and showed both us and the Japanese that they were not out of reach.

The next picture is a marker at the base of compass hill. It is a cool place and this was the first time I took the time to check it out. During the convention, it just hadn't made it to the priority list. It was kind of cool to be there on a beautiful evening with the aviation juices flowing from the workshop. It is a much different atmosphere than during the convention with 9,000 airplanes and 700,000 people.

The other picture was taken from compass hill of Pioneer Field. Newer buildings, but made to look like an old time airfield.
