Brief Description:  Oshkosh 2011 continued

Fifi, the only flying B-29 Superfortress in the world made it back to Oshkosh this year. She hasn't been there since 1995. The group that owns it had some financial problems and once they secured funding had all four engines replaced with updated ones. The originals were problematic and expensive to maintain.

We were able to see Fifi fly during the airshow on Saturday and it was quite a sight. On Sunday, we took a cockpit tour just as they were packing up and getting ready to fly back to Dallas, TX her permanent home.

My first visit to Oshkosh was in 1980 and my mom took a picture of me by the nose wheel of Fifi. I was 12 then and Tanner is 13 now, so it was cool to get a picture of him by the nose wheel as well.

I attended a fiberglass workshop that was put on by Sam James. He has a business of after market RV fiberglass parts and I may buy my engine cowling from him when the time comes.

Oshkosh was a great time again this year and some highlights were: Fifi, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, 100 year Naval Aviation anniversary and past and present aircraft painted in WWII colors, Tanner smiling when first seeing a P-40 after a years wait, Colten walking the RV parking area with me looking at construction details of wing tip and cowling attachment, listening to Bud Anderson and Chuck Yeager, being with the two geatest teenage boys in the world. Can't wait for next year.
