Brief Description:  Marines practicing helicopter/water operations.

On Monday late afternoon I drove to the South and visited Coronado. There is a Naval base there with lots of helicopter traffic throughout the day. While on a beach adjacent to the base I watched two Blackhawk helicopters practice dropping and retrieving Marines or Navy Seals I presume from the water.

The first picture shows a Blackhawk practically land in the water to drop the Marines. The cruise ship behind them is heading to sea and had quite a view of the show.

The second picture shows the helicopter hoisting the Marines back on board.

Image 3 is a cargo plane that may have been Canadian (maple leaf of right wing) on short final and only about fifty feet above my head. I saw it coming in to land from a couple miles away and stood next to the base perimeter fence lined up with the extended runway lights. I didn't zoom the camera for this picture and it was pretty loud going overhead. Cool.
