Gerry stopped by today, after I called him, to look over my work so far. He thought everything looked OK and gave some tips on how to make my flush rivets look better cosmetically. He suggested putting masking tape over the flush side to protect it from dings, etc. He also loaned me a rivet set that swivels and has a rubber guard. The swivel keeps it flat on the surface if the gun is cocked a little bit and the rubber guard helps to keep the set from wandering when you rivet.
He helped me for about an hour and we finished most of the left side. Things go a lot faster with two people, especially when the helper has already built a few airplanes.
