Manual Reference:  Riveting Rudder
Brief Description:  Finish building Rudder Assembly.

#10 Dimple Die came yesterday. Installed Rudder Balance Weight.

Discovered that I missed riveting a rivet in the middle of the rudder skin to Rudder forward spar.

I had to drill out all the rivets along the middle leading edge to be able to install the missing rivet. Was able to get my Tungsten bucking bar in position to drive the rivet. Also, I tried bending the “rolled” leading edge skin to obtain a better fit.

I found a large trey of suitable rivets should I need them for the leading edge of the Elevators.

For the last several days, I worked in low light conditions. Will be more careful in the future to check after each riveting operation. I don’t know how many times I’ve looked at the rudder without finding the empty dimple. Today was a beautiful day with lots of light. The empty hole popped right out to me.

Installed rod end bearings. Was able to use regular wrenches along with a slightly oversized 90 degree wrench to screw the bearings into the Plate nuts installed on the rudder front spar. Tightened all three lock nuts against the front spar (2) and lower rudder Doubler.
