Brief Description:  Rolling Rudder Leading Edges

I used the Cleveland Lap Seamer Tool to prepare the right edge. Unfortunately there is not enough room at the top of the rudder because of the balance tab. For the elevator skins, I will make the bed before I rivet the skins to the front spars.

I used a broom handle to roll the rudder leading edges. Slightly larger in diameter that the 1/2” pipe I bought for this purpose.

Found it extremely difficult to roll the leading edges of the rudder skin. Had some help from Jim Ellis, but discovered that it is easier to roll one segment at a time, i.e.; between the cutouts for the MD3616M Rod End Bearings .

I am not perfectly happy with the results, especially at the Root end of the leading edge, but it looks okay and should be fine.

I’ll do better with the elevator skins. The duct tape has a tendency to suddenly tear during the rolling operation. Will try to reinforce the ends with reinforced tape strips. That will allow better control of the leading edge forming process.
