Brief Description:  Fuselage - Dimpling Fwd Floor and Rear Cargo Floor

Back working on the RV-8 after at least 6 days without touching it. The replacement parts ordered from Van's did not arrive on time for the week-end (major snow storm paralized Portland, Oregon area), and required tools are back ordered from Aircraft Spruce. Because of that, I had to change my plan for the week-end work. I did:

1) Per instructions page 8-32, item #8, I had to do dimples in holes dia #30 corresponding to holes that were previously countersunk in frames F-843 LH and RH. These holes are the (2) holes on both side of the L/G box. The holes are impossible to reach with the pneumatic squeezer, and the C-Frame must be use. The C-frame needs to be supported while we are hammering the dimple dies together. Bolts in corner of L/G box must also be removed to provide access to the closest dia #30 hole to the L/G box.

I understand these dimples are done at this stage because if they were done at the beginning of the build (when preparing fwd floor), it would prevent the frame F843 to sit flush on the floor side for drilling holes throught it. I believe the way around this would be to dimple the holes early in the fuselage assembly. When the time comes to drill holes in the frame F843, I would match drill these 4 holes each side first, remove the frame then countersink the holes, relocate the frame in place to drill the remaining holes.

Over all, I probably spent more than 3 hours to make those 10 dimples...not efficient at all.

2) Flush screws for Rear Cargo floor:

Per Van's drawings 71, the Aft baggage area floor F-834-1 is permanently installed with LP4-3 blind rivet. In order to make this removable, earlier in the project, I modified (10) holes in F-818B-1 RH and LH to use nutplate instead. Initial plan was to use universal head screws. Tonigh, I revised this plan to use flush dia #6 screws instead. In order to do this, I had to countersink screw holes in baggage rib angles F-818B, then dimple matching holes for dia #6 screws in F-843-1 Aft baggage floor.
