Brief Description: started on the first few camlock fasteners
I picked the locations for the first seven camlock fasteners to hold my upper cowl to the flange around the perimeter of the firewall. I started with seven silver clecoes, then up-drilled the holes for copper clecoes, then brass clecoes, and finally to a quarter-inch which seems to be the final size needed for the stud penetration through the fiberglass. When it came time to install the sockets, I decided to install one upside down temporarily, just to use the socket as a template for drilling the rivet holes. I pushed the stud up from underneath, and mounted the socket on the stud long enough to drill the rivet holes. Then I removed both the socket and the stud, dimped the rivet holes, and rivetted the socket on the underside of the flange. This first intallation looks reasonably good, but I find I am going to need to upsize the central hole a little bit in order to allow the little locking rod on the stud to pass through. Temperature in the hangar just hit 97 so this looks like a good time to call it a day.
