Fabricated an oil door latch striker plate. I cut a section from the solid portion of a stainless-steel hose clamp and riveted it to a piece of fiberglass left over from trimming excess off of the cowl. I then cut a notch in the oil door flange in the upper cowl that would allow the striker plate to sit nearly flush in the opening. I then bonded the fiberglass strip to the inside of the upper cowl and also installed some blind rivets in the two parts.
Rounded the corners of the oil door to a 1/2 inch radius. Wrapped the edges of the oil door with 3 layers of electrical tape. Sanded the oil door flange on the upper cowl and applied epoxy/micro to it. Installed the oil door on top of the micro and latched the door in place. Smoothed out the micro around the periphery of the door.
