Brief Description:  Cowling ... on going tasks

Today has been productive. I started the day by redoing for the thrid time the top plate for the air filter bowl. This time, the fit was perfect and the air tunnel from the front scoop is perfectly aligned. All of this because I did not know there was a different scoop for the 360 engine. Lesson learned !

With that done I was able to make the air scoop neck longer as per the instruction. Then I had decided to make the front air scoop removable, hence why you see on the thrid pictures that I cut it. This will ease a lot dropping the bottomn cowling. Tomorrow I will make the flange for it.

Once it was cut, I was able to fiberglass the exterior of the neck. I also sanded all area that will be fiberglassed on the air scoop and on the bottom cowling as well.

Also I had re fit the top cowling and drilled the piano hinge that I have replaced last weekend. To insert the side pins to joing the top with the bottom cowling, It required a few fiberglass cleaning (because the bottom cowling hinge have been fiberglassed & riveted on) and I also drilled the firewall so the side hinge pins could go through to give a better support as per Vans instruction.

I am still debating if I will make a trap on the scoop where the oil drain is located. If I do, I will not have to remove the bottom cowling for oil changes ... I have not decided yet ... just roughly draw the possible opening on the scoop itself.
