Brief Description:  Air filter

As I often said in my comments, nothing is as simple as it seems, hence why I am heading toward the average kit time built of 2500 hrs ! I am around 2300 hrs and cannot see how I will do less than 2500 hours ... not counting final assembly and painting ! It will be what it will be.

Last week I thought to start working on the air filter, that seems to be pretty straight forward as the kit I bought came with a few instruction sheets, ardware and all. I had previously installed the scoop following the plans but when I installed the air induction the bolt holding the mixture arm was rubbing against the air scoop wall. One thing had to move a little bit off center.

Then I found out that the air filter instructions changed and also some of their parts. One of them was the mounting plate which is now made with the hole 1/2" off center to help with the top plate part to center better with the air scoop forward opening. Second piece to get , and remake according with the new online instructions.

Then locating the top plate with the mounting plate is also not easy which has to do with the next paragraph .

To align that top plate with the air scoop, that is not an easy tasks and question arised as you are doing it. Once done, the top plate scoop is too long and must be cut to length to clear the air scoop curvature at the cowling intersection to permit the cowling to drop straight down more easily. Again this is not something easy to figure because of all the curves and the accessibility. Bending the top plate is not complicated but my curve to get the top plate above the air scoop is about 2" ... fluting alone as suggested in the instructions does not work. I had to cut the flanges before bending.
