Brief Description:  Various things ... preparing to final rivet it !

Today I did many things and despite there is definitely some progress, the results are slow to materialized.

I wanted to test if I could chemically etch aluminium with chloridric acid ... So to tested a method which I found oninternet. I bought some auto sticking vinyl letters 1/2" high and try to engrave the immatriculation lettters of my RV6 on a small aluminium piece . First preparing the aluminium piece, clean and stick on the letters on the aluminium. Then put some tape over part you do not want to etch. The result was not bad ... I soaked the part in a 50% solution of water and acid for about 60 minutes which made the letters sticking out by about 1 mm . I would like to use this technic for the access holes that will hide the2 horizontal hinge pins up the front cowling end. That would be painted and I was thinking that I could perhaps age it a bit to give it a distinctive look.

Also, beside deburring many holes from hinges, I made the frame for the oil stick trap access. I even made the special hidden hinge which I saw on Spruce Aircraft the hand drawing to scale giving all information dimension wise. I used 0,040" thick 2024 T3 material and the result was perfect. All I need is the small spring A. S. are selling. For the door, I will use material from the belly which will have the right thickness. The final opening is 4 1/4" X 4 1/4" which is perfect to get my hand in the hole.
