Brief Description: Why Vans RV-8
Although the Long-EZ caught my imagination as a desirable plane and is surely most enjoyable to fly, I chose Vans Aircraft mainly because they are in this business since 1972 and still are, they have time proven all aluminum airplane designs, they are relatively simple and accessible as a first time builder, they have a high degree of flying performance, a great customer and builder support, there's close to 8000 completed kits as of January 2013, and not the least, attractive pricing.
Next decision was what model of Vans Aircraft? Although I expect that I will fly most of the time solo, I want the option of having my wife along on some cross county flights, so a two-seater is required. Tandem seating appeals to me since I'll be alone most of the time, and I want to fly sitting in the centerline. This is why I have chosen to go with the RV-8. Although I have zero time in a tail wheel plane, the RV-8 lines look much better with the classic landing gear configuration. Besides, I will have plenty of time to get my certification.
A local builder is working on his second RV-8, above is his first one he built. Hope my turns out half as good as his. Great looking plane Randy!
