Brief Description:  Riveting Continues - Rear and Front Spars 1

The next step the construction manual calls for is to install the four hinge brackets located on the rear spar. The brackets are steel and are already powder coated. The two outboard hinges, HS-413PP are riveted to the spar channel using four AN470AD4-5 rivets. I first tried setting them with my hand squeezer but found out that rivets set too close to the flange to insure that the squeezer set perpendicular to the rivet.

The picture below shows the bracket after two failed attempts in trying to set the rivet with the squeezer and then having to drill them out. I have shown my local EAA advisor some pictures of the bracket and received his recommendation on how to move forward with this part. Basically, clean up the hole, and set the next length of rivet, AN470AD4-6.

The HS-412PP hinge brackets are set only with two AN470AD4-7 rivets, they too are steel and powder coated.

The forward spar assemble is all Clecoed together and is ready to be secured to the table and riveted.
