Brief Description:  Left Horizontal Stabilizer and Preparing the Ribs

The last step in preparing the front spar assembly was to prepare the four center holes for AN426AD4 rivets, these are flush rivets, therefore the first two holes on the two spar has to be dimpled. So the HS-810 and HS-814 has to be machined countersunk to accept the dimples.

Preparing the ribs was next on the list. The first thing I did was to label all ten ribs with the appropriate number and mark all of them as either “right” or “left” so I will end up with the correct number of each. Careful cross referencing the plans will insure of this. Each rib edge was “broke” using the Scotch-Brite wheel and then fluted with the exception of the HS-404 and HS-405 which only received edge finishing at this time. Both HS-404 were notch per the plans to fit around the HS-810 and HS-814 reinforcement bars and the HS-706, HS-707 and HS-708 were fluted.

Once everything is clecoed together, HS-801PP, "the skin" gets clecoed on to the skeleton. Once the skin was clecoed on both sides this marks the first milestone of a several pieces of aluminum parts put together that resembles a part of airplane.

The HS-404 and HS-405 get placed in the end of the structure and the pre-punched holes of the skin gets marked on the rib flange so both pices can be fluted correctly.
