Brief Description:  Rear Horizontal Spar

Well the plan was not to start until have I get back from Sun N Fun. Well that did not happen as I began the “breaking” the edges of the two HS-603PP spar channels with the Scoth-Brite wheel. After that I rounded the ends of the two HS-609PP spar reinforcement bars.

I needed to be able to lay the entire spar on the work table so I had some left over plywood from the table top but I needed about six more inched in length to allow for some room at the end. I took two three inch prices and added them on each end. In all I logged the first 3 hours toward a slow build, looking forward to the many hours to come.

I secured the plywood fixture to the table and attached a string line down the middle. It is tied at one end and the other I placed a weight on the string so the line will always be taunt. I used a Vixen file to round the edges of the two HS-609PP spar reinforcement bars.

I was excited to start clecoing the four pieces together, so I did. I located where the two HS-708 main rib and drilled the four #19 in the spar. I labeled the two HS-412PP and HS-413PP brackets with a system I saw on fellow RV builder sites. I am using LTL and LTR to mark the brackets on the left spar and RTL and RTR for the brackets on the right spar. I am understand the concept on the time to; planning, reading the step in the manual, look at the plans, reading the step in the manual, looking at our saved builder sites, and having the next step worked out in your mind before you are ready to drill that hole or squeeze that rivet.

The last item for the day was to tape the VA-146 bearing and apply some NAPA 7220 primer. I spent a total of 5 hours in three sessions throughout the day drilling #30 holes.

The first rivets that are set is from the HS-411 assembly which places the VA-146 hinge bearing between the two pieces. Time logged today, 2 hours.
