Today I worked on the oil door for the top cowl. I fisrt cut a 5" x 5" template from a cereal box. This was used to mark the cut-out on the cowl and to mark the door on the door piece. The hole was cut and then sanded using a sanding block to final size and shape. The door was cut and thaen sanded to final size. A backing plate was cut from .032" aluminum sheet. I did some trial fitting because the hidden hinge I am using is not completely straightforward as to how it should be positioned. In spite of my trials I have a few holes that I will have to patch with micro paste. The hinge was drilled, and the backing plate was drilled and then these were drilled to the top cowl. The door was then drilled to the hinge. I will still need to complete drilling the backing plate before countersinking the fibergalls and riveting the parts. I just ordered the latch which will also need to be installed on the door.
