Brief Description:  Forward fuselage

Work continued on the forward fuselage. First I fabricated the lower longerons from aluminum angle. You have heard the addage, measure twice, cut once? Well, the part was to be cut 26+ inches long, so to be precise I used my 24" steel rule, marked at 24" and then measured the final amount and made a mark. Then I measure with a tape measure as a double check. Then I marked the cut line using a square and proceed to cut. Only to discover that I drew the cut line at the 24" mark, sot the final mark. Rats!! A call to Van's and a replacement angle is on its way. I did the other side correctly, then installed it, drilled and bolted it to the firewall weldment and then drilled to the skins. I trimmed, drilled and bent the F-7114 gussets, then fitted and drilled this on the right side where I had the lower longeron installed. Continuing on the right side I clecoed in the forward bulkheads and then fitted and drilled the Gear attach web on the right side. Unfortunately, when I drilled out the holes on the forward bulkheads to 5/8" for the ruddder cables, even though I had clearly marked with a Sharpie which hole to drill out to the larger size on one of the bulkheads I got ahead of myself and drilled out a nutplate hole instead. Double rats. Two dumb mistakes in one day. But I called Van's and they added that part to the earlier order so at least I will only pay one shipping charge.

I then fabricated some spaces and angles for the fuel tank attach bracket. I did not get the angles right so will do them again. At least they are short and I have a lot of that size angle.
