Brief Description:  Engine cowling

I continued work on fitting the engine cowling.

First I clecoed the spinner bulkhead to the attach plates on the propeller to confirm the distance from the face of the prop hub to the trailing edge of the spinner bulkhead. I needed this to properly space the front of the cowl behind the prop and spinner. The distance is 1.5" and I bolted a cardboard disk to the prop spacer using 1.5" spacers to simulate the back of the spinner.

The bottom cowl was trimmed so gear legs cleared.

Hinges and hinge pins for the cowl attach were cut to length and installed.

The bottom cowl was adjusted to proper position and then marked for trimming where the forward skins end at the firewall. Cowl was trimmed and a sanding block used to adjust fit. Bottom cowl was drilled and clecoed to the attach hings on the side of the aircraft.

The remaining baffle parts were removed so I could begin fitting the top cowl. It was placed into position on top of the lower cowl, adjusted and then marked for trimming at the firewall. Side edges were marked for trimming where they meet the bottom cowl and these edges were trimmed. A sanding block was used to adjust fit.
