Brief Description: Mount ignition coil, hoist engine
I spent a good deal of time today thinking about where to locate the ElectroAir ignition coils. I wanted to make sure they would not interfere with anything else in the engine compartment. I decided to mount it near the center of the firewall, close to the top.
Mounting hole locations were marked and drilled. Stiffeners were made from angle and drilled to the firewall at the mounting hole locations. River holes were drilled. Platenuts were drilled to the firewall and stiffeners. All holes deburred. Firewall was dimpled and stiffeners were countersunk. Stiffeners were riveted to firewall and platenuts riveted. Coil was mounted to firewall.
I removed the engine from the crate with an engine hoist and moved it into position in front of the fuselage. After a long wrestling match and several failed attempts I was able to get the top two mounting bolts in. The engine in mounted to the fuselage with rubber vibrations dampeners and the mounting holes all angle toward the center of the engine, so getting things to line up is a bit hard.
