Brief Description:  Instrument Panel Layout

Wow, I haven't done a good job of keeping up with the logbook entries. Over the summer, I didn't get a lot done, but I did finally get the custom harness for the COM and intercom and ran it through the fuselage. I also installed the grounding block on the firewall and finished connecting all the VP-X power and ground wires that I could. I would guess this was 30-40 hours of work all told, but I won't log it now. August and September were spent rebuilding and upgrading our home office PC from a hard drive crash, so that I could get our flight simulator and SolidWorks up and running.

I spent about 20 hours learning the basics of Solidworks so I could figure out how to arrange my Instrument Panel. Fortunately, Vans and Dynon have put their models on line, so I didn't have to create them. Long story short, is I had to cut out the aft ends of the F724 ribs as they connect to the instrument panel exactly where SkyView HD1100 displays go. I moved them inboard by a little over 4", still leaving me room to put a backup D10A EFIS and the 4 Dynon AutoPilot, Comm, and accessory knob panels in the center of the IP. The attached images are a mock up of the mounted IP. I still need to determine where to put a few annunciator lights and the required placards. I think I will design a sub-panel around the throttle quadrant where all the switches will go. This will keep everything centered so that the plane is easily flown from either seat.
