I have changed my mind about preparation and priming of the wing ribs. At first, I intended to use the SANCHEM stuff but I figured that handling chemicals and dipping the parts into several plastic bins is perhaps too much trouble.
I spoke to the Stewart System representative and he’s insisting on taking advantage as much as possible of the corrosion resistance nature of the Alclad covered aluminum. He has proposed to simply brush up a thin coat of paint on one of the mating surfaces; in this case, the rib flange. That’s what I did.
I trust that this is a viable solution because my 1967 Piper Cherokee is a living proof that Alclad works. Only very few parts have been primed like parts of the gear legs and the wings main spar. Besides, this makes ribs preparation far less time consuming.
