Brief Description: Installation of platenuts into tips more fitting
After another Monday off I began today the work of installing the platenuts in the wingtips, one at a time and the tip fitted to check the fit in the wing after each second installtion. The installtion involved several steps per each and in some cases had to be redone to fit the wing.
Once the row was installed I trimmed the excess metal along the flange edge of the tip and then cleaned up and straightened the edge. This has to be done for 5 rows per tip and 80 platenuts, with occasional rivets into the strips alone to keep them in place where the metal was 'bubbling' on the fiberglass inside edge.
Also primed and treated the strips before installing them finally as well as all finished edges where bare metal or metal on plastic existed.
