Brief Description:  Final Trim And Fit Of Cowling Nosewheel Strut Slot

Worked tonight just to finalize the nosewheel strut slot in the lower cowling. This needed to be completed in order to get the final measurements for making the SNB-P13-23 Nose Gear Cover Plate Assembly.

To ensure the slot was as perpendicular as possible to the rear edge of the cowling, I layed out strips of blue painter's tape to make the edges for trimming. These were checked with a carpenter's square from the cowling rear edge.

The rough opening was checked for an accurate center on the strut, and the tape applied with any offset adjustment needed to center the slot on the strut once final trimming was completed.

Worked through about three iterations of installing, re-taping, re-trimming, then rounding out the front of the slot opening.

Checked final slot cut about the strut with the fairing installed and centering was good. Then verified adequate clearance when nosewheel was deflected to full-stop in both directions. Uniform clearance on both sides when fairing trailing edge swung out to the sides with nosewheel rotation.

Final slot width is slightly less than the approximated width of 2" stated in the plans. Finl slot width was approximately 1.78". Total length of slot is slightly less as well, which will make SNB-P13-23 Slot Cover shorter than specified in the plans (plans specifications are for an AeroVee nosewheel strut position).
