Brief Description: Cowl Prep - Clearing The Openings - Part 2
Continued cowl prep by cutting away the flat plates that block the cowl's air intake and prop hub openings on the lower cowling section.
Again, I initially left the U-Channel portion around the prop hub opening. I did check with Cris Nash at Sonex, and he verified this can be cut away for proper clearance around the prop hub. Since I was getting some contact on the hub, I removed the U-Channel section and smoothed the inner opening edge for the prop hub. Plans say to leave about a 1/4" lip around the hub opening, but I'm leaving a little more until I get further into the fitting process.
I also left the maximum amount of cylinder air intake opening walls, and smoothed the trailing edges of them. These will be further trimmed at future fitting.
Initial trimming of the lower cowling section air intake and prop hub openings.
The folded-back "U-Channel section around the prop hub opening has been removed.
Cowling openings initial trimming/prep is completed.
