Brief Description:  Cockpit Coaming

Plans:
1. Construct the cockpit coaming leather wrap.
Status: About 25% complete. The individual pieces of the leather wrap are forming up. The left and right as well as the rear sections are sewn. Holes for lacing were punched in the rear most section and it has been temporarily installed to verify the fit. Not a bad fit but the individual sections need to be sewn together to complete the coaming. My wife Sherry has been helping with some of the sewing. Everything must be done by hand with punches and needles as my machine can't handle the thick leather.

Note: The holes around the cockpit are drilled every inch. Interestingly the mating holes punched in the leather are best spaced 15/16" apart. The leather is pulled and stretches as you lace it. If you use a one inch spacing the holes eventually are way off as to near the end. Learning this lesson caused me to scrap a leather hide. Hopefully that will be the only hard lesson.
