The joggles in the nose of the cowl supplied by Vans were so far off I decided to simply cut them off and fabricate them to fit properly. I positioned the halves together and put some packing tape on the inside lower cowl to act as a release. Then I layed up 6 layers of fiberglass to make up a new joggle. Instead of the piano hinges supplied as part of the Vans RV-8 kit I am installing the Skybolt mounts. The first step was to place the cowl and roughly determine the center of the horizontal split line of the cowl so the the horizontal mounts will line up properly with the firewall mounts. Once that is done the mounts need to be drilled and riveted to the fuselage. I put the cowl halves on the fuselage and marked the top cowl for cutting. I also roughly layed out the horizontal cut so that the Skybolt mounts could be layed out.
