Brief Description:  Corvair Engine Entry #1-2

continued from entry 1
I went back to this yard the next day and the owner declared as soon as he saw me that he was going to keep and not sell the Corvair engine....he has other plans for it. I smiled, wished him a nice day and left. I traveled to the next couple of yards on my list and found them to have from 1 to 7 Corvairs in their yards. Most of them early models and many of the engines were locked-up tight and could not be turned with a 3/4" wrench on the harmonic balancer. One of the yards contacted some of his friends and provided me with a name and phone number of a man that builds Racing Engines for Race Cars and rebuilds Corvairs and GMC Motor Homes as a part-time business when he has time and customers for them. He has an abundance of Corvair Cars, a couple of Vans and even a truck or two. He has several complete engines and many Engine parts and has sold several to guys like me building a Corvair A/C engine. He was happy to help and invited me to his shop. I found him knowledgable, helpful, friendly and fair in his prices. I purchased a late model complete engine and he loaded it on my SUV. I spent several days taking it apart and trying to clean off 40 years of hardened, built-up dried-on grease and dirt and internal oil stains with varying degees of success.
