Brief Description: Wing Main Spar and Center Main Spar together
This is a multi day entry. Dis-assembled Left Wing Main Spar, deburred, scotch-brite pad and primer'ed. Re-assembled the comjplete spar and Solid Riveted. Attached "L" angles and "hats" together with Left Wing Tip.
Made 3/4" round spacers for Center Main Spar and installed them. Leveled the Center Spar on the Work Table, and leveled and inserted first the right then the left Wing Main Spar in each location and measued for proper dihedral angle of 5.65 degrees. Dis-assembled the Center Spar and located each face (front and back) in the proper set-up, with correct dihedral and clamped together. Checked measurements again and drilled the Center of three main bolt connections with #40 drill bit. Checked all angles and measurement again and drilled the other 4 holes in the left then the right side of the Center Span useing the Wing Main Spar for Drill guide. Turned over the Wing spars and did the same to the other Center Spar face.
Re-assembled the Center Main Spar with Spacers and bolted the Wing Spars in their proper location and checked all measurements again against the plans. Dihedral and length, etc... All are absolutly as specified.
I now have a complete Wing Spar and can begin to build my wings.
The other builders are correct. This is not difficult if one takes their time and carefully proceeds as per the plans.
The Construction Manual is of little help here...it tends, I feel, to support the "Kit builder" not the Plans Builders. Plans bulders must pay careful attention to the plans and seek out every measurement and location before proceeding with the project. The other Builder sites are a wealth of information and direction. I've found I must check them and review each builders methods and notes, carefuly, to get a full and complete picture on each and every part I build. They are the teachers and their work product is the image I need to seek.
Center Main Spar with each Wing Spar in-place and bolted in (not final 5/16" bolts yet.
