OK...here's the deal on the trim tab closeout. The instructions in the manual...DON'T FOLLOW THEM. Do what I did (which was an idea from another builder's RV-7 log).
In the photos below, you can see where I took a piece of 4x6 and cut a slot with the band saw. I then used a c-clamp (DO NOT USE A QUICK CLAMP).
Rather than using the rivet gun (which even on low power runs away from you), I methodically used a standard hammer to bend the tabs.
Result...perfect close out on the tabs.
PS: I only wish I had researched this method BEFORE I SNAFU'd the other trim tab skin. Oh well...education and recreation (it took me a week to get over being ticked at myself for screwing up the other trim tab). At least it was a relatively cheap mistake and not a big skin.
