Brief Description:  Rudder Final Assembly

This evening I pulled the clecos from the trailing edge of the rudder and cleaned up the extra sealant. I also finished the rivets in the rudder (with the exception of the counter weight section at the top.

The counterweight and the rolled leading edge are the only tasks left on the rudder.

I'm fairly pleased with the way the trailing edge turned out. It's very straight, which is the desired result.

I did have to add larger rivets where the trim tab is located. Basically, I increased the size of the hole to a 30, and then put in the larger (and slightly longer) rivet. The tab is very strong now. Likewise, the added weight is miniscule.

The only thing I don't like about the double-flush rivets is that they don't "look" like they fill the hole that well. However, Vans instructions do say "don't fall into the trap of adding longer rivets." I am going to go back and double-check everything, but it should be good.
