Brief Description:  Almost done with VS Prep

Aside from dimpling the appropriate parts, I'm just about ready for final assembly of the main VS parts.

Before I do the final assembly, I"m going to scuff the parts with scotchbrite pads and then use Rustoleam self-etching primer.

Go to Google and search for vans and primer and you'll find about 60 trillion arguments over to prime or not to prime. You'll also find various opionions on what to use to do the priming.

Last weekend, I attended the EAA SportAir workshop. My workshop was delivered by a professional builder that's not too far from me. His opinion was that if you prime (and that's an option...not a requirement), you should prime around the rivet holes and/or around areas that would be subject to possible long-term moisture exposure. As such, you don't have to prime everything with a super-thick (and heavy) coat of primer.

Now...my take one the primer argument and instructions:

1. Scuff the area to be primed.
2. Clean the area with a tack cloth.
3. Spray with a quality spray-can self-etching primer around the affected areas.

I know not everyone agrees with this method. HOWEVER, after reading the ideas around the Internet, speaking with other builders, and then speaking with two professional builders, I think my method will adequately protect the plane's internals.

BTW, the final photo below shows that I needed to do to get the front edge of the VS ribs in place. I also filed down the front edge of the ribs. They fit nicely now without distorting the VS skin.
