On Thursday we got up early and found the repair materials at Home Depot that we researched online. I found a product called Steel Stick, which is a two part putty type material that allows you to apply in a putty state, then it dries like steel. You slice off what you need from a putty stick, then work it in your hands so the two materials mix and activate. Then you have about 3 minutes to get it into place and remove the excess. Just a few hours later you can sand, file, or drill the area you filled. I applied the repairs, then we left for the day to show Tom and his wife a little bit of Northern California.
When we returned in the evening, we spent a little time cleaning up the repairs and determining if this was something that would stand up to the vibration of the helicopter in use. We actually riveted against both of the repairs, and they both withstood the violent attack of the rivet gun. I have to tell you that I will sleep SO much better Thursday night than Wednesday night.
Tomorrow we need to finish up the last side of riveting, and then prepare the cabin for shipping.
