Brief Description:  R-Elev Tip: Glass in counterweight -Part 2-

- continued from Part 1 -

We basically did 3 quick layups of glass - making sure to dab out any bubbles in the process - amazing how little resin you actually use!

We then mixed some micro ballons into the last bit of remaining resin to make a failry thick slurry which we smeared on the fron face of the (now glass clad) counterweight. This was done just to build it up a tad as we're going to have to build it up substantially still.

This was then left to dry overnight. The next morning, just before heading out to work, I couldn't resist a quick check and saw that it'd dried out absolutely rock hard. I just had to uncleco everything and grabbing the trailing edge of the tip, The glass "cracked" off the packaging with no effort whatsoever!

It would seem that the fiberglass, whilst it might be a lot of work (i.e. sanding, sanding, sanding and more sanding), it is by no means difficult work. On the contrary, it actually seems to be pretty easy. Seems my trepidation was no more that a bit of "Fear of the unknown!".
