Brief Description:  Fuel tanks/wings

Today I installed both fuel level sender units in both fuel tanks. I fitted the tank pressure testing kit to the starboard tank and will probably test it somewhere around Friday.

I admit though after all the storms and rain we've had over the last 2 1/2 days I was wondering if I should've chosen to build a boat! But to be honest I'd rather pilot a plane than a boat :-) Having said that, I’ve just rumbling to the north and sure enough, according to 'flightaware', there's a storm over KSAT and it's headed our way.

I decided to do more work to the wings, namely the NACA ducts. I've decided to use CS 4-4 pop rivets to hold them in place and use the tank sealer to smooth the interior join between the duct and skin to keep the airflow smooth. I'm using 6 rivets, three each side of each duct, and will use washers on the inside to protect the duct itself from damage by the rivet.

I did plan to use 2 pieces of plastic pipe inside the duct to sandwich the bug guard and retain it in position. But I couldn't get it to work to my satisfaction. So I'm going to put the guard on the outside of the duct pickup and use tank sealer to hold it there. I'll dab sealer on the corners to hold it in place, and when dry edge the circumference for a good seal

I drilled the ducts/skins to #30, deburred both (I don't know if plastics need to be deburred, but thought it couldn't hurt) and dimpled the skin. I thought I had the washers, but I don't, so I need to get some.....Lowes here I come again.

Image one. I found screen door netting from Lowes was 15 bucks. But this little kit cost less then 8. The pipe was about 2.50 the Screen repair kit around 3, plus tax, result! What I liked about the screen repair kit is that the material is metal, not a sort of plastic as sold for screen doors. I wondered what a bug would do to a bit of soft plastic bug guard, with us flying around at 180mph as against what it might do to a metal guard, so I went to the metal. There are 7 repair squares in the pack and they are just big
