While fitting the rudder bottom cap, I realized the holes drilled to attach the fairing to the bottom of the rudder have been, well, drilled rather randomly, not in a straight line, and not evenly spaced. No rivet spacer was used here!!
I can't leave this alone... Decided to fill the existing holes and drill new holes.
• Filled the existing holes, and then re-measured for new holes. • Located the new holes and match drilled to the rudder bottom flange. • Using a nut place jig tool, located the holes for nut plates so I can fairly easily remove the fairing should it be necessary since the tail light wiring will be inside. • Deburred the new holes, and dimpled the #40 holes for the AN426 rivets to hold the nut plates. • Riveted the nut plates in place using AN426 rivets. • Fitted the rudder bottom cap fairing on to the bottom of the rudder. I am planning to use AN6R8 screws and tinnermans for attaching the fairing
