Why a Sonex? I've flown since 1978, and was dormant for many years while life got in the way. After regaining my currency, I purchased a cherry 1967 Cessna 172. The problem was that if I needed anything besides an emergency repair, I had to wait forever for my A&P (who was a great A&P, by the way) to get it done. Also, even with only 1700 hrs total time on her, I always had concerns about a 40 year old airplane.

I looked at several other brands of experimentals. While I enjoy building, I want to fly, so I could not see myself commiting to a 3 year build span. That pretty much ruled out some other brands, even with their quick-build options. I also wanted to feel like I was part of a community. I found that in the Sonex world. There are many other builders who communicate daily (hourly?) with one another on the SONEXTALK Yahoo Group. Technical or informational emails sent to Sonex LLC are answered in less than 24 hours. Bottom line is that there's just a lot of life and excitement in the Sonex world.

My kit arrived 1 April 2008 and construction began almost immediately. Check back often for updates!
