Welcome from Rochester, NY in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of western New York.
April 12, 2010 Update:
After working on various wing detail parts for awhile, I needed a change of pace, so I've been making angle parts for the fuselage lately. With the arrival of warmer weather, I'm ready to move back to the garage and begin work on the wing main spars. My goal is to finish the wings this summer.
About The Project:
My Sonex will be AeroVee powered, standard gear, dual center controls (Sport Trainer style), standard seat height (I'm 5'8" and my spouse is 5'3") and painted. Instruments will be day VFR to begin with.
A first time builder with no previous experience in sheet metal or aircraft construction, I attended the May, 2007 Sonex Workshop and came away convinced that this was the right aircraft for my needs - a safe, high fun factor sport plane at a reasonable cost, and something I can build and actually complete, backed by great factory support.
The learning curve (i.e., educational factor) is really part of the fun, and there's a whole community of help available from Sonex, EAA's Homebuilder Hints videos, my local EAA Chapter 44 and other builders. The Sonex, Waiex and Xenos builders on the Sonex Yahoo Groups are knowledgeable and quick to help, and many have documented their projects extremely well on their own websites. The Sonex community is a good and friendly one.
Feel free to browse and get in touch if you have any questions or advice to offer.
~ Mike
