Once the thin expoxy cured, I was another block sanding session to smooth the high points, and then the hexagonal holes were filled by scraping wet-micro epoxy filler into them with a razor blade, then scaping off he excess. This did a good job filling the holes, without alot of extra to sand off when cured. From what I read, i'll need to repeat this 3 times to completely fill the surface.
