Today I welded together the wing tip jigs that hold the main spars. They go through a lightening hole in the tip rib and the main spar sits in this jig. It's made of 1" square tubing; the base is 5" long, then a 1" spacer and finally a 4 1/4" piece that will act as the spar support. After welding the pieces to the cross brace, I noticed that there was some flex in the angle iron and that the flat braces were flexing. So I made some support pieces out of 1" angle iron and that shored things up nicely. |
