The cowling begins |

While planning locations for the avionics I decided to work on the cowling. A guy on our airfield makes fiberglass parts for racing teams. He said he would help me with this task. So I am going to take a break from electrical and get the cowling mounted. I have to know the location of the spinner to set the cowling in the right location. After doing a lot of research I went with Vans instructions. If installing a constant speed prop make a spacer 2 1/8" long. I chose to use 3/4" schedule 40 PVC, I cut four sections with my chop saw, measuring each one with my handy dandy mircrometer. Kind of funny, cutting with a chop saw and measuring with a micrometer. Anyway with a little sanding I had four spacers. Using four hardware store bolts I bolted the spinner aft bulkhead in place. Now I have the location of the aft end of the spinner I can move forward with mounting the cowling. I am using Skybolt fasterners, so their process is a little different than Vans. But using both it should be fairly straight forward. We shall see. |
